Watch Out for Bad Purina Dog Food
Read this if you use Purina Puppy Chow - it could be making your dog sick.
Sorry this isn’t a funny post but I think it’s important to document that our dog Jack (black Pomeranian below) became very sick a few weeks ago. We was throwing up and vomiting constantly for about 2 weeks straight and the Vet thought it was just a bacteria infection, and gave us some medicine to treat the symptoms (which is all doctors are good for nowadays but that’s for another day) and make him more regular. We also fed him a combination of yogurt, rice and cottage cheese (which seemed to help) while slowly getting him back on dog food.
The medicine ran out after about 5 days and by then we were giving him the Puppy Chow again, and he became even worse than before. Then we realized that he got sick immediately after we bought a new bag of Purina Puppy Chow, so we found an all-organic high end dog food for him and within a couple days (once the Puppy Chow was out of his system we assume) he was back to his regular self.
It’s important to clarify that we came to this conclusion ourselves and we did not consult a veterenarian about whether or not it was really the Puppy Chow, so we could be wrong, but logically it fits. I’m assuming that we were just unlucky and purchased a random unhealthy bag - I am still a fan of Purina products and I have no plans to stop buying their products (we’re using a different brand now but it’s not necessarily permanent).
